Using appliances and utilities: hot water, A/C, gas and more

How to switch on the hot water, run the A/C, find the gas meter and use the appliances in your holiday home, plus what your reservation already covers.

Do

  • Keep windows and balcony doors closed while the A/C is running.
  • Set a comfortable temperature rather than the lowest possible one — the room cools just as fast and the unit copes far better in summer.
  • Turn the A/C down or off in rooms you are not using.

Don’t

  • Don't switch the A/C off completely for long periods in summer — the humidity builds up fast and the home takes hours to recover.
  • Don't cover or block the ceiling vents or the thermostat.
  • Don't try to open, adjust or reset the A/C unit itself. Call us instead.

No hot water? In most of our homes the water heater sits on a wall switch, not a control panel — flick the switch and give it 20–30 minutes. Below is how that works, along with the A/C, the gas meter and the rest of the appliances.

Turning on the hot water

  1. Look at the light switch panel just outside or beside the bathroom door. One of the switches controls the bathroom water heater — it is usually labelled, and often a slightly different switch to the light.
  2. Flick it to ON.
  3. For hot water at the kitchen sink, check the switch panel next to the kitchen lights, or a switch inside the kitchen area itself. That one runs the kitchen water heater.
  4. Wait 20–30 minutes for the tank to heat, then run the tap.
  5. Leave the switch on for the rest of your stay if you want hot water on demand.

If the switches are on and the water is still cold after half an hour, message us on WhatsApp at +971 (4) 392-0202 and we will send someone to look at it.

Water heaters in Dubai can produce genuinely scalding water, especially in summer. Test the temperature with your hand before stepping into a shower or bathing children.

Air conditioning

The A/C is controlled from the thermostat on the wall in the living area, and often a second one in each bedroom. Set the temperature you want and choose the fan speed; the unit will cycle on and off on its own to hold that temperature.

Gas supply and the gas meter

If your home has a gas hob, the gas meter is inside one of the kitchen cabinets — look for the cabinet with the yellow gas pipe running into it. That is where the supply valve is, in case you ever need to shut it off.

If you smell gas: do not switch anything electrical on or off, do not use the hob, open the windows, leave the property and call the emergency services first. Then call us on +971 (4) 392-0202.

Everything else — the guest manual

There is a guest manual inside the property with step-by-step instructions for the appliances and amenities specific to your home: the heating and cooling system, TV, washing machine, dishwasher, oven and hob, and anything else installed. It is the fastest answer for a machine you have not used before, and the models vary from home to home.

  • Find the guest manual (usually in the living area or on the kitchen counter).
  • Check the page for the appliance before you start pressing buttons.
  • Note the Wi-Fi details, which are listed there too.
  • Keep our number saved: +971 (4) 392-0202.

What your reservation already covers

Your reservation includes the running utilities — you do not pay a separate bill during your stay.

UtilityIncluded in your reservation
ElectricityYes
WaterYes
Air conditioning / coolingYes
Internet (Wi-Fi)Yes — complimentary in all our homes
Gas (where fitted)Included in your reservation — no separate bill
Exception. Excess utility consumption during your stay may be charged to you in line with the terms and conditions of your booking. Normal holiday use is never an issue — this applies to unusually heavy consumption, such as running the A/C with the balcony doors open for days.

On Wi-Fi: every home is equipped and it is free for you. Newer properties may run on a 5G SIM router until the permanent line is installed. Speeds are generally high, though we can't guarantee a specific speed.

When something isn't working

Tell us early rather than living with it. Most issues — no hot water, an A/C unit not cooling, an appliance that won't start — can be resolved the same day.

  1. Check the guest manual and the relevant wall switch first, in case it is simply switched off.
  2. Message us on WhatsApp or call +971 (4) 392-0202, or email info@deluxehomes.com.
  3. Tell us the property, the appliance and what happens when you use it.
  4. Let us know when it suits you to have someone come in.
In a fire, gas leak, flood or medical emergency, call the local emergency services first, then contact us.

All our homes are licensed holiday homes operating under DET (formerly DTCM) regulations, which is why the appliances, safety equipment and utilities are maintained to a set standard — and why we would rather fix something for you than have you work around it.
